Welcome to Year 1
Year 1 teachers areMiss Cox and Miss Sproston (as Mrs Rogers is currently on Maternity Leave). They are supported by both Mrs Weston and Miss Gee, who complete the Year 1 team.
We are very excited to be starting our new journey into Key Stage 1 and are learning many new and exciting ways of taking on difficult challenges to help us learn lots of wonderful things! To do this we are exploring our local environment and using technology to help us. By the end of Year 1 we want all of our children to celebrate how fantastic their learning journey has been and appreciate how hard they have worked to become independent, confident and super learners.
In Maths we are practising counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. This is helping us as we learn to multiply and divide numbers using objects and pictures. We will access our learning through various ways - from outdoor learning opportunities to enriching excursions. There's no end to what we get up to in Year 1!
We work on our reading and writing every day and each week learn a set of spellings too. It is very helpful when these are practiced at home too. IN Year 1, we are enjoying reading new texts, and we are even using these to inspire our own creative writing. We are learning to plan a story and develop our ideas which means we can use our imagination.
Our goal for this year is for us all to make our own individual progress by working hard and recognising how special we all are. We shall be expanding our language and writing this term by learning all about adjectives, persuasive language, letter writing and instructions.
The importance of attending school every day will truly help us achieve this goal. We aim to not only grow as individual learners, but also make personal growth, and achieve personal goals – from having the confidence to speak out loud, to making new friends.
