Autumn Term Topic
Our topic this term is ‘A Child’s War’. We will be focusing on WW2 and how this impacted on children. We have arranged a trip to Cannock Chase Museum, where children will travel back in time to experience a day in the life of an evacuee. Details for this will be forwarded shortly.
The learning log homework for this topic will be to make an Anderson Shelter and present it to the class. This presentation will involve discussing their design and the inspiration behind their project.
Uniform: It is very important that we make a good impression in Year 6. Therefore, please support us in ensuring your child has the correct uniform at all times. As the weather gets colder, please also ensure that your child has a coat.. If you wish your child to change shoes to play football, please ensure they bring a spare pair of old shoes or trainers.
School necessities: School provides all necessary stationery items such as writing pens, pencils, rubbers and sharpeners, so there isn’t a huge need for extras. If your child wishes to bring their own pencil case, that’s wonderful and thank you.
Bikeability Summer term: The children will take part in Bikeability, which is a full day training on how to ride a bike safely on the roads. This is a fantastic opportunity and all children are encouraged to take part. Therefore, if you are struggling for a bike, please let us know. We will endeavour to support you with this.
PE kits: Our PE & games days in Year 6 are Wednesdays and Fridays. On these days, your child must have a PE kit in school. On a Friday PE will take place outside so please ensure that your child has suitable clothing as the weather turns colder. Wednesdays are indoor, so shorts and t-shirt will be fine. It is always a good idea to leave a suitable PE kit in school all week and have it washed at the weekend.
Water Bottles: Please ensure that your child has a water bottle in school. It is very hot at times, especially on PE days and the children will need hydrating.
Communication: If, at any time, you feel you need to communicate something, please pop in to school a little earlier through the main entrance, or call the office. Please ensure the school has your current mobile number, as messages and reminders are often sent via text. Our school website is fully up to date and is a great source of reference for information for parents, along with our school app. This can be downloaded from your relevant app store.
Let the year begin!
